Product Standards
Selecting the materials we use to create your products is a really big part of what we do at Mxt. A lot goes into it! Ingredients are vetted and selected by a team of R&D chemists, who review the technical and process specifications of ingredients, and by estheticians and other skin care pros for efficacy and safety track records. We also review a ton of data -- everything from public data bases that focus on ingredient safety and environmental concerns to market data showing use of ingredients across our industry.
It's our goal to make skin care with the best possible ingredients for you, and these are some of the policies we follow on that path.
Chemistry 101
Mxt products are formulated to be safe and effective. While we lean to naturals, we also believe that not all chemistry is bad chemistry—especially when it comes to pure molecules made in a clean and sustainable way with verifiable data and published results. That means sometimes forgoing a botanical extract that sounds good on paper, but doesn’t always deliver on its promise in favor of more processed compound that really makes a difference. There is so much amazing “green” science now, some of it is incredibly advanced -- we’d be remiss not to take advantage of it.
The No List
Our R&D team vets our materials using a number of public databases that track and rank cosmetic ingredients based on their source, production process, and safety. Among these resources, we check EWG's "Skin Deep" database for an ingredient's safety score. With the exception of a few materials (AHAs, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, sodium hydroxide, retinol and its derivatives) we select materials that have the best overall safety score (1s and 2s).
We also maintain an extensive "no" list that expands upon these regulatory sources:
- EU Cosmetics Regulations: Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 Of The European Parliament And Of The Council Of 30 November 2009, including COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2018/1847 of 26 November 2018 amending Annex V to Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009
- US FDA Regulations Code of Federal Regulations Title 21.
- California Proposition 65 "Hot List." All materials on the Proposition 65 hot list are prohibited for use in finished goods and raw materials.
- Heath Canada: Cosmetic Ingredient Hot List

Shelf Life
Just like any other beauty product, a Mxt product is thoroughly tested for stability. Your product should be completely stable at room temperature for up to 2 years. All active ingredients (even ours) weaken over time, especially once the packaging is opened and the product is in use. Order often for the freshest mix!
Strength & Freshness of Actives
Your product will have been made just days before you receive it. The active ingredients are fresh and potent. Because of this, products may be stronger than you are used to, so ease into use. Patch test creams and serums on your underarm.
Textures, Scents and Storage Conditions
Your Mxt product has been made just for you with key ingredients at high, active levels and nothing extra added for marketing purposes. Because of this, your Mxt product might feel and smell a little different than you're used. That's because the many key active ingredients have distinct odors and textures that can only be eliminated by putting in just a tiny drop or masking it with perfumes. Mxt doesn't mix that way, so you may find that your products have a scent or texture that you're not used to.
Optimal storage condition for your Mxt product is room temperature or a little cooler. If the product is exposed to prolonged high heat or extreme cold, it may lessen the power of the actives or change the feel of the product some. Don't worry, the heat or cold won't have broken it, but it's better to avoid temperature extremes if you can.
